Limit yourself: Less is more

Wednesday March 21, 2012 | Themes

A few users have filed support tickets in the past few days in regards to Mobi's menu system and title bar.

These users have noticed that when they have a lot of menu items in the top level of the navigation that they spill over, pushing the title out of view. This is a bug that will be addressed in a future update

But that being said it brings up a whole new topic... limiting yourself.

Even though the update I eventually release will fix the overflow problem, the solution is to simply hide the overflowing menu items. This means though that the menu items that get hidden won't be accessible to your visitors.

When working with theme that are so incredibly flexible, like Mobi, it is important to try to limit your space as things on your pages have to flex and adapt in many instaces.

This would mean using smaller site titles, fewer top-tier menu items (using more 2nd-tier navigation items), and using flexible solutions like Joe Workman's responsive layout stacks.

Responsive themes have to be able to be quite flexible, but that means your content does as well. This includes the way in which you approach your site's layout and content composition.

Less is more.

Hi Adam,

a short respons to the above text. The menu is still a problem. As the MOBI-Theme has only 2 tiers, it is often necessary to have more menu items. These get sometime completely lost when changing the width of the page on a device with people having no idea this is happening. That is a problem and I really do hope you will find a way to adress this problem in the time to come. I like the MOBI-theme in many aspects and would love to be able to use it for other projects in the future.

with thanks and greetings

Michel
